Member Value

The Council’s primary value is on the relationships it develops and builds with policymakers, regulators (namely the Department of Insurance), and their staffs to effectively advocate for policies and regulations that promote a fair, competitive and robust industry in our state. During the legislative session, the Council closely monitors key legislation and provides quick response as needed, including providing testimony before House and Senate committees and advocating for policy positions and changes that meet the needs of our members and our mission.

In addition to the day-to-day advocacy at the Capitol during the legislative session, as well as the ongoing relationships with key policymakers and the Department, the Council also provides the following member benefits:

  • Real-time alerts of key policy and regulatory issues or developments;

  • Weekly summaries of legislative/regulatory activity, as well as bill tracking charts of key issues;

  • Weekly calls highlighting legislative/regulatory activities during legislative session (calls held on an ad-hoc basis during non-session times);

  • End of session and new law summary reports;

  • In-person meetings, which allow for member networking, as well as member interaction with Department staff and key policymakers;

  • Assistance with individual member-specific issues, including outreach to the Department or members of the legislature as appropriate.
